Ceramides
Ceramides form, together with cholesterol and fatty acids, a lamellar structure whose ratio (1:1:1) limits water loss — the number of ceramide types listed means nothing on its own, only this ratio matters. A reference active for dryness and compromised barriers, with very low allergy risk.
Which skin it suits
Dry to very dry skin, atopic or sensitized skin, skin that feels tight when the seasons change, and any skin recovering from retinol or exfoliation. Combination to oily skin benefits too, provided you choose a gel or lightweight texture rather than an occlusive balm. Ceramides go on as the last step, morning and/or evening, to seal in the hydration delivered by the previous layers. They pair naturally with niacinamide, which supports the skin's own ceramide synthesis, and with hyaluronic acid.
